You will connect one of them via Ethernet to either a modem or a router, and that one will become the de-facto “master” that will create the mesh network to which you add the subsequent ones. First, you'll want to download the SmartThings app to your iOS or Android device and create an account. From there, you'll power on one of the SmartThings nodes and connect it to your modem with an Ethernet cord. Then, open up the SmartThings app and select Samsung SmartThings Wifi to start the setup. You'll create a network, set the password, and choose some basic parameters. Samsung sent along a multi-purpose door/window sensor and a smart outlet to test out the system's home automation prowess, and pairing them with the system was quick and easy.
Although we had the benefit of testing this back-to-back with the more powerful tri-band option, the little Eero 6+ delivered, and you’re unlikely to notice the difference in general use. As with the Eero Pro 6E, setup with Sky involves an extra step where you need to deactivate your internet router’s wifi after setting up the Eero to avoid interference issues. The Orbi 7 Series offers an old school ‘tri-band’ experience, in this case being one 2.4GHz band and two 5GHz bands, unlike the newer models on our list that have 6GHz band coverage too.
Samsung Connect Home WiFi Mesh Router Review
In addition to being a mesh Wi-Fi system, the Home Connect uses Samsung's SmartThings platform to control Z-Wave, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth home automation devices. There are over a hundred such devices that support the Works With SmartThings initiative, including dimmer switches, smart outlets, thermostats, locks, cameras, lighting systems, and more. You can control these devices and make them all work together using the Samsung Connect app for iOS and Android. Simply add them to your network to turn things on and off and assign Rules to have devices trigger other devices.
Just follow the simple instructions on the SmartThings app and let the system go to work. SmartThings Wifi recognizes all of your devices, identifies the flow of traffic, and starts to optimize your home network. The companion Wifi app helps you manage the setup with a few quick taps.

The process is extremely easy, and if the box doesn’t connect, make sure that it is close enough to another one the mesh to get a proper WiFi signal. You can also setup all boxes in the same room, then move them later. If one of them loses the connectivity, you can just move it around until it gets it back .

If the customer is experiencing internet issues, they can request a Wi-Fi Extender regardless of the results of our analysis. The units are the size of a large cup, which makes them easy to place where needed, and they won’t stand out any more than a typical smart speaker. Sometimes your house can work against you when trying to connect gadgets to the internet and you can be stuck battling buffering while watching Netflix or Disney+. The Samsung Connect Home or Pro both offer adequate speed and coverage, but the price is a little high for what you get as a router. Older equipment and devices, including computers, laptops and mobile devices, can slow down your connection. Periodically upgrading your hardware can also improve your connection's performance. Our Fios Extenders are easy to set up, so we ship them as a self-install kit to eligible customers.
At 30 feet, the Connect Home satellites garnered 130Mbps and 136Mbps, respectively, beating both Asus Lyra satellites and one of the TP-Link Deco M5 satellites, but not those of the Linksys Velop. The Samsung Connect Home redeemed itself by doubling as a hub for smart devices. The system works as a midtier router and a SmartThings home automation hub, all controlled by a single app. Try to choose rooms with walls made of sheetrock or another relatively thin material when you're finding a place for your router and/or extender. The Nest Pro’s radios support tri-band frequencies including the newest wifi 6E - which is, in theory, blazingly fast, but does require 6E compatible devices and high speeds from your internet service provider . The only slight snag in this is that Google Nest Pro coverage is quoted relatively low at 120 square metres per router, so you’ll probably need that three-pack for it to work effectively. The Nest Pro system has parental controls available through the Google Home app so you can manage devices at a granular level by creating groups. Rules can then be applied to the groups, such as scheduled downtime, website blocking, and pausing access - all of which are ideal for family homes. We’re rating the Nest Pro the best overall, due to a combination of technical futureproofing, easy operation, relatively low price, and a lack of costly subscription to parental controls. You might have also heard of wifi range extenders which plug into a power socket and extend the distance your main router can offer internet.
Shop your favorite products and we’ll find the best deal with a single click. As a SmartThings hub, the Connect Home has antennas for Zigbee, Z-Wave and Bluetooth 4.1. The Pro uses one of the 2.4 Wi-Fi antennas for Zigbee, which causes its max theoretical speed on 2.4GHz to drop to 500Mbps when the SmartThings hub is enabled. That means you'll have to turn off your SmartThings hub functionality if you really want to get the most out of the Pro router. It was great to see how the adaptive system would figure out which channel was best for each device. For instance, while I'm writing this review on my laptop upstairs, I am connected to the central node in the basement. Using the in-app speed test function, my computer got 123Mbps down and 88Mbps up, which is pretty darn good. Via the device screen, you can see which network it's using, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, the channel it's on, and the node it's connected to. You can jump from a broad network level view to an individual node one.
